Extending an Olive Branch

It has been an amazing day today.  I’m having one of those moments when God speak to you all day.  Everything you listen too has a message.  This week has been all about family.  I’m preparing for an upcoming annual cookout I hold each year and for some reason God has expressed in my heart to spend time with my family. I’m pulling both sides of my family and a few of my close friends together for a day of food and fun.   As I sat at my desk the words extend an olive branch came to me.  It can be hard to decide if you want to extend an olive branch to someone when you have been wounded.  I look at the olive branch as a point of peace. If a person sends you a message of peace receive it in peace. I was always told that in Proverbs 15 - A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.  The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

I think you get my idea.   God will tell you when to extend an olive branch of peace to a person.  Now I’m not saying everything will be right as rain and in some cases you don’t want it to be that way.  Whenever you deal with instances and children are involved learn to be the bigger person and do what’s right for the child.  If the other party decides to take your olive branch and be unreceived about it then you have done your part.  One thing I can say about being a Christian is this people judge us based on what we are supposed to be but they don’t judge themselves on any type of scale. Bottom-line is this if you can judge my Christianity then does that mean I can call you out as being heathen or a whoremonger.  I think that’s the part people forget. Don’t dish out anything that you can’t take back.   It can feel great coming off your chest, but when harsh words worst than what you say come back like a boomerang that just hold your face go right ahead and  say ouch.  Not everyone will receive an olive branch and not everyone will give one, but if one has been extended to you in some sort of peace or peace treaty take it because in the end you won’t hurt the person.  By not taking it God will hold you responsible for your actions.
